please stop spamming other people's pages and artworks with your flames. young artists really don't need that. critique; sure. flames; big no no.
what with the "learn how to draw" and all that. i've sen many a person on this site with attitudes like that, and to tell the truth, only other idiots like that kind of thing. you can choose to ignore that which you don't like, and go on with your life. it's that simple.
I admit, it was immature to be that flat and rude about it.
But her intent was not to make any sort of oekaki or pixel art, so a program as low-tech as MS Paint isn't for her use.
"nuuuu, post anything you feel like DX"
First off, I cannot believe you would sugar-coat her into thinking that she can just dump whatever she likes onto their file systems. They have to pay for hard drive after hard drive just to keep up with the demand for it all; it's very expensive to run a website like this and the community is encouraged to discourage "anything you feel like" being added in like she made a serious artwork.
She said it, herself; it was a test. Tests don't go on paid hard drives. Works of effort do. Compare the two artworks, yours and the one I showed you a video of; here you can tell one searched for an appropriate program, took time to plan out his work, and did it to the best of his ability. TheMusicGirl, on the other hand, did not find an appropriate program, did *not* invest time into planning any sort of expressed artwork, and certainly did not produce this to the *best* of her ability, herself.
She crapped out on it where this guy did his best, that's all that matters and all that bugs me. Don't even think about jumping on me about age difference or talent difference. One DID HIS BEST, the other DID NOT DO HER BEST. One PUT EFFORT, the other DID NOT PUT EFFORT.
The very subject is stupid in itself. "Which style do you prefer?" Seriously?!
1) Of what, a Sonic drawing? Nobody wants to see Sonic crap, make something artistic! This is an ART site, a place for *expression*, not for videogame fandumps.
2) It's STYLE. STYLE. Nobody cares about what your STYLE is as long as you MAKE AN EFFORT with it. You can *CHANGE* the style *any time you want!*
3) It's MSPaint, I prefer a more complex program.
4) Even for MSPaint, what about dithering? Palette warmth? Contrasting? We're just talking about the color of the border of the picture? There's almost no change!
And you know what's extremely weird? Her page links her to an open-source cheating program. She's *familiar* with open-source stuff, how could she not know about GIMP or other good programs?
well, you also have to think about this from the other person's point of view. maybe she can't download a new program; her computer might be too old. maybe her parent/gaurdian won't allow her to; not enough hard drive available.
which brings me to the next issue. yes, this is an art site, and what you see may not be art, but at least she's creating something and not spending all of her time texting and getting carpal tunnel. she's also humbling herslef to all the users to be obliged to give their opinions; it matters that much to her.
Sonic is a very popular thing nowadays, especially on art sites. it's simple, a lot of people like it, and hey, it is a pretty good game/show/comic. i do have to admit that i have had my fill and then some of all this Sonic business, but i tolerate it because i know that other people do like it, and i'm not one to criticize their opinions.
one may not like shuttershades. okay. good for them. one may not like Sonic. okay. but they don't necessarily have to vent about it.
Oh, she can download programs, buddy. The very link to dogcows.com says such. Her computer is likely Windows XP, which GIMP works perfectly on, taking up a mere 15-20 megabytes, and that's the up-to-date, unstable version, too. You have a point, sure, some people can't download programs due permission, or to old computers, but in the defense of the following, most Linux programs are specifically designed/coded for a vast multitude of computers, especially older models, and will continue to be made available for new computers, too.
As for the next issue, my emphasis is on effort, not the quality of the work. That looks like something that is pulled off in five minutes. I can understand the whole having-your-fill bit, sure, but whether it's MS Paint or Gimp, whether it's Sonic or something completely original, the effort put into it is what gets me. The effort. She didn't make any.
Those above points were the two points I wanted to make the absolute *most* clear to you in the previous message. :/
People don't have to necessarily have to vent about anything, but if nobody vented, would everybody just suddenly get thoughts in their head telling them "oh wait, I'm doing something wrong or annoying?" No way. Vents are the result of built frustration over a problem that failed to blow over and prevails without apology.
(And I am not a fan of shutta shades, either. I just got involved on the inside joke and am trying to fix my avatar after saving over it [stupid, stupid...])
I understand the points your making here; but i still think it's best if you just ignored what you didn't like and moved on. if not, offered constructive criticism. maybe commented saying, "do you have any other art programs you can work on?" or "maybe if i saw a whole picture i could judge better". or something.
in all of my(not so many) years, i've noticed that speaking calmly and reasonably to people is what gets the better reaction. if you're trying to get an angry or upset reaction, then that's just on the wrong side of the dice, buddy.
(shuttershades were just the first thing to come to mind; ya know, after the whole Shutta Shade Tuesday and all that)
Perhaps I'm just being pessimistic. I dunno. Quick, name me a person who started out with horrible Sonic pics and got legitimately *better* and *more original* as a result of nice criticism. I'd like to see that.
BlueHemrata. was introduced to anime in early childhood, quickly went after Sonic. has been a Sonic gamer most of her life, and has, by now, become a very decent artist. she was pushed along by the support of her mother and her friends; thus dropping the whole Sonic thing(well, mostly) and drawing humans. her anatomy skill is currently improving.
and Somic doesn't have to be a bad thing; just... overused. and not-so-original anymore.
